HYBRID WORK - The pandemic has put us in front of the need to transfer the workplace from the offices to their homes. For many this step has been brutal, while others have realized that they have been preparing for this transition long ago, because smart working is not new to 2020. But the future of companies is now moving in the direction of hybrid work to the benefit of businesses, workers and the environment.
The first experiences with smart workingMolti are led to think that smart working is a solution born with the needs of the pandemic. In reality, this is not the case, but it has its roots well before 2020. Smart working, in fact, has imposed itself for the first time in the Italian legal system in 1998, as a first experimentation of the Public Administrations to authorize forms of work at a distance. However, it began to take shape with Law 81/2017, a new discipline that allowed an alternative to traditional working practices, with immediate adoption by many technology companies.
These have made it a new philosophy of thought, with surprising results on productivity probably deriving from the condition of "comfort zone" of the employee who is put in a state of autonomy, with the possibility of reconciling personal and professional life at its best.
What the pandemic did was to highlight what good telework can offer and what there is to improve. We talk about things to improve because we are all aware that smart working is a very powerful tool that most companies and workers are not willing to give up. But it is certainly not going to be under the same conditions as in the pandemic years, but it will be more towards a hybridization of work.
Already in 2018/2019, the philosophy of hybrid work began to assert itself, that is, the concept that the worker can be highly committed and productive at home, in a local office and, if necessary, in the company headquarters. This mode of work brings numerous benefits to the workforce that
"You will be able to have an office closer to home, so you will not be forced to make an hour’s drive to go to work, and greater satisfaction, which results in productivity and cost reduction. Not to mention the environmental impact, with a substantial reduction in city traffic and a consequent reduction in CO2 emissions. A noble cause, therefore, as well as extremely useful."
All over the world there are already many cases of companies that are certain to pursue the idea of hybrid work, but to be able to do it you need to review some things.
"From 2022, there will certainly be a need for legislative measures to take account of worker protection mechanisms with new contractual and remuneration arrangements. It is desirable to seek a serene confrontation that can be measured in special committees composed of companies and unions to monitor the experience of agile work on a large scale and resolve issues that are creating debate."
Not only that, there are many aspects to keep in mind, including the investment of excess resources given by the redistribution of space and the careful search for an appropriate construction of cohesion staff.
